From Me To You: SPRING!

Hi, all you fashionista's and metrosexual's!!!

I don't know what the weather is like where all of you live, but here in Los Angeles the days are longer and the weather is definitely warming up. I actually put the top down for the first time this weekend! When I was making my plans to move out here from the east coast (8 years ago already!), I imagined myself driving around in the beautiful Los Angeles weather, in a hot convertible with the top down and the music blaring. Me, scarf over my hair, wearing huge shades, reincarnating some old Hollywood starlet. **sigh** I confess: I do that now, when the weather is like this, and some small part of me understands the meaning of success. It's defined only by you, and for me, when I realize I have actively manifested my fantasies into my realities, that's what feels like success. Among other things... Anyway, I digress.

I am now, admittedly, starting to freak out a little bit about the idea of swimsuit season. I am P.A.L.E. right now. I used to go to tanning salon's around this time of year to start "building my color" for the season. However, it's time to realize that not only does tanning majorly age your skin with sun damage, it puts you at risk for skin cancer. At home tanners have a bad rep, but I dont really have much experience using them. So over the course of Spring, I am going to start testing out at home tanners (on small area's of my body: I dont want to walk around for weeks looking like an Oompa Loompa!), and I also plan to try out something I have actually wanted to try for a while: airbrush tanning. That's when they actually airbrush your body by hand with sunless tanner, and can layer the solution until you get your perfect shade. I have also heard of places that do this, and can actually "contour" your body, by shading area's in a way strategic to hiding your flaws and flaunting your best "ass"ets (*giggle*, sorry... I had to).

Not only that, but it's time to TONE! And if I can get up off MY princess tush to make it that much better for those bottoms, so can you! I have recently started doing yoga (for the strength and stretching, in addition to toning), and tae bo (for cardio, to burn calories). Hopefully, I will be able to keep it up through the Spring, and I am hoping if I promise all of you that I will keep you posted on my progress, it will keep me motivated!

Also coming up for Spring here at Couture Cult, will be something new and fun! I don't want to tell you too much about it, but I am *very* excited! I'm working on a webisode of the same kind of content as I write about here on the site! I cant wait to get the first one up, but I am working VERY hard on it and want to make sure it's just PERFECT before I share it!

I am proud to say that I have officially completed my SPRING CLEANING! My house is sparkling from corner to corner! I find that when the season's change, thats the perfect time to do a a rotation of the clothes in your closet. Move your cashmere, cords, and coats to the back, and put your cottons and lightweight layering pieces towards the front. This is also a great time to go through your wardrobe. I suggest making a few piles. Try things on and make sure they fit properly. Create a pile to take to the tailor for hemming or mending, a pile for things that should be dry cleaned, another for the items you wont wear anymore but can probably resell, and another pile for things you will donate. This will make room for all the new Spring trends you are going to want to mix into your wardrobe as bright colors and new cuts start to make their way into the stores! Even better, taking your clothes to a resale store will give you some extra cash to help pay for that way hot but too expensive luxury piece that you've been eyeing. No matter what your budget is, it's always great to have those pieces to mix in with your more budget friendly ones. Try to get one thing each season. Look for a really great and timeless "piece" that will be worth the investment by staying useful to you as the years go by. And hey, if that's not in your budget, you can always do some shopping in the resale store you brought your clothes to. Sometimes, they offer you more money for what you brought in if you are willing to accept store credit.

Hope you are all happy and healthy! Talk soon!

XOXO

'Devil Wears Prada' Leads To New CW Series

And I am meeting with casting people for this show tomorrow and Friday! So wish me luck! This sounds like SO much fun, and SO up my alley! Either way, this should make for some good TV...

The CW has ordered eight episodes of a brand new reality series from the duo behind America’s Next Top Model and a trio of producers behind Project Runway. Described as The Devil Wears Prada meets The Assistant, the show is a competition about aspirants looking to become assistant editors at a fashion magazine. Fashionista hopefuls will have to prove they have a sense of style and savvy, all the things needed to make it in the fashion world. In each episode, there will be an individual challenge and a team editorial challenge—with groups submitting a page for “The Book,” a mock edition of the magazine. The losing team’s page will end up in the trash, and one of its members will be eliminated. Producers are in negotiation with a leading fashion magazine to host the contestants and help judge the challenges. The overall winner will land a job in the fashion industry. Though still untitled, the series will begin production in April for a TV launch in late spring or summer, and is viewed as a potential companion piece for The CW’s #1 show, Top Model, which returns with Cycle 10 on Feb. 20. The Devil Wears Prada, incidentally, was the 2006 Oscar-nominated film, starring Meryl Streep as a ruthless NYC fashion magazine editor and Anne Hathaway as her put-upon assistant.

A Sparkling Auction at Christie’s: BLING

I would like to take a moment to introduce you all to Couture Cult's very first correspondent! Covering all things FETCH & FABULOUS in NYC, Amelia Posada! My best friend and fellow fashionista, I hope you guys get to love her! Her first story for us is, OF COURSE, covering a jewel auction held at Christie's...

A Sparkling Auction at Christie’s
By Amelia Posada

The stakes were high as bidders from around the globe took part in one of the most anticipated auctions of the season at Christie’s yesterday, where buyers had the chance to bid on some rare and important jewels, as well as some items from the estate of the late actress Lucille Ball.

Private dealers, jewelry connoisseurs, and spectators packed into the saleroom at Christie’s annual fall “Magnificent Jewels” auction and within the first 45 seconds of the sale, the first item – a pair of silver candlesticks by Buccellati, had jumped from $4,000 to $10,000.

The sale started promptly at 10am, and the room was buzzing with chatter as the bidding wars began with Christie’s employees bidding by proxy for people via telephone and internet, vying with bidders in the audience.

The total in sales for the day was $38,878,650, the highest selling item going for $2,885,800 and the lowest selling item, a colored diamond ring, going for $1,375.

The most anticipated sale of the day was an extremely rare blue diamond ring, a 5.07-carat rectangular cut “fancy” stone within a pave-set pink diamond, which sold for the highest price of the day to an anonymous buyer over the phone. The blue diamond was simply described as having been the “property of a gentleman”. It was the last sale of the day.

Twelve items from the estate of Lucille Ball were auctioned off, including five pendant necklaces, two watches, two rings, a retro diamond and gold evening bag and matching cigarette case, selling for a combined total of $331,000. Part of the proceeds went to the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center, in Jamestown, NY.

The “Magnificent Jewels” sale is one of the most important and widely anticipated auctions of the year at Christie’s and the sale was very successful.

“It was an amazing, incredible sale,” said Kate Swan, a Christie’s spokeswoman. “We were so pleased; it was a packed room. The jewelry market, the diamond market in particular, is so strong, and it was such a great, great sale, we are all very pleased.”

Haunt Couture: What The Stars Are Wearing on Halloween

I'm going to my first (and probably last) Halloween party tonight, and in case anyone is interested, I'm going as Victoria "Posh" Beckham. My girlfriend is dressing up as David. Yes, too cute for words. If you ask nice, maybe I'll post pics.... But when you ARE the celeb, what are you dressing up as?

This article by the New York Post, asks celebs what they plan on wearing this season. From Courtney Cox to Kim Kardashian, check out what HAUNT couture really means!

They also talk about when stars encounter people dressed up as themselves, or characters they have created. I wonder what Posh and Beck's would think of our little homage...

What are YOU going as?
