Featured Fashionista: Rihanna
Writing this is very unexpected, I have to admit. Rihanna is only 20 years old, and it usually takes a celebrity a good amount of trial and error, and personal exploration and experimentation before they are able to really put together their own signature style. But Rihanna has been impressing me a lot lately.
She's been making front row appearances at Chanel and Sonia Rykiel, to name a few, at Paris Fashion Week. And her outfits have been just perfect!
Here she is at Sonia Rykiel. I love this look so much. The colors are beautiful, and perfect for the season. The bright blue of her coat, and the yellow of the bag really stands out. And the outfit underneath: to die for! The pants are cut so beautifully, and I love how its modern and simple but still interesting. I've also always been really drawn to monochromatic outfits, for some reason. It makes the details of the design really stand out, instead of the colors.

And here she is again at Chanel. This look is perfect for her to wear to Chanel, its very age appropriate without being immature.

Another favorite look of hers, is this one from the Jack Gallery, where she bought seven Todd Goldman paintings last week. This looks like something I would wear out on the weekends. I love the black, white, hot pink color combination. Its girly and punk at the same time. The attitude of her haircut only brings out the vamp of the outfit. The leggings, I am jealous of, and want a pair just like them! And the shoes coordinate perfectly as well, I love the use of patent leather there. Who doesnt want to steal that jacket?

I have now raised my expectations. Someone should give Miley Cyrus the direct number to Rihanna's stylist!Labels: celebrities, chanel, featured fashionista, sonia rykiel

I feel like purple is so unexpected when I see it. It certainly takes something to pull it off. You either look regal or like fright-night. Rhianna is definately regal.
I love this purple look by Meghan Fabulous...

Featured Fashionista: Huma Abedin

This month's Vogue did a small piece on Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton's traveling chief of staff, calling her the "polished politico". I, of course, thought how great would it be to have someone other than a starlet as our Featured Fashionista! On my blog, I strive to empower women, showing that you dont have to be in a major motion picture to take pride in your personal sense of style and express yourself through fashion as an art form.
Without taking any political stance, I think its safe to say that as an educated, independent, and further, a Muslim woman working in politics, she does a lot to break down stereotypes. All the while coming across as not only put together, but fashion forward.
"Putting an outfit together is a creative outlet for me" she says.Labels: fashion quotes, featured fashionista

Featured Fashionista: Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman wore this super sheer Valentino dress to the Swarovski Fashion Rocks event. It takes a confident and secure woman with a practically perfect figure to pull this look off! And it takes a truly elegant gait to not look trashy in it. Good for you, Uma! And good for Valentino, who can't seem to do wrong. Two highly enthusiastic thumbs up!Labels: celebrities, featured fashionista, valentino

Featured Fashionista: Cory Kennedy

Im not really sure where she came from. All I know is she looks like what my grandmother would call a "ragamuffin", ALL the time. Yet pulls it off in that superskinny, post heroin chic, pseudo-vintage, anti-trendy trend, and I am envious. She's beautiful in a unique kind of way, and dare I award her the compliment of being a young Chloe Sevigny who models instead of acts? I dont know her deal... but I like it. And Im paying attention. You should be too.

Featured Fashionista: Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan:

Ok, so I guess this is the first inclination here in this blog as to my Lindsay obsession... say what you will about her hard partying ways, THIS blog is about the clothes, and she has got a definite style of her own. She looks "cool" in pretty much anything she puts on, because she seems to (at least subconsciously) understand that fashion is just as much about the woman who is wearing the clothes, as it is about the clothes themselves. She exudes sexy, innocent, fun, and fashionista: simply through a change of clothes. She brings amazing pieces to life with her attitude. As it should be. Attitude is EVERYTHING. (I want her wardrobe!)

Featured Fashionista: Chloe Sevigny
Chloe Sevigny:

She has definitely come a long way since I first saw her in KIDS as a troubled young girl with AIDS. Now on the HBO series BIG LOVE ( second season premiers June 17, 2007 ), it is clear her career has flourished over the years. Another consistant evolution has been in her unique and under-the-radar sense of style. She somehow always manages to create a look that is just slightly hipper than the pulse of what is going on in the fashion scene she relishes in. I have more than once asked myself, who is inspiring who? Are the designers inspiring her looks? Or is she inspiring theirs? Whether she is choosing it well, or wearing it well, it matters not. Her true BIG LOVE for fashion, shows. It seems she has remained humble in her success, still favoring that special vintage find: "I still prefer to buy vintage over spending it all on one designer," she expressed to the Times. "My mother encourages me to spend a little," she said. "It still feels weird. Even now I never live beyond my means. I've never been that girl. I mean, I have a Christian Dior mink poncho. But I didn't buy it." Mixing vintage pieces with modern couture is the perfect marriage of style and iconography.
